What stirs your heart? What moves your will and compels your actions?
We often try to change by focusing on behavior. But Scripture tells us that God is after something far deeper—our hearts. He is not content with empty actions or hollow obedience, nor does he desire us to act based on what we feel at any given moment. Instead, the Lord desires a people whose hearts beat for Him, whose lives are shaped by holy affections. More than emotions, holy affections are the response of our whole being to the beauty and worth of Christ. And when our hearts burn for Him, everything else is set in motion.
This five-week sermon series will explore the power of God-centered affections in the Christian life. With each sermon firmly rooted in one text of Scripture, we will draw upon the enduring insights of the great pastor-theologian Jonathan Edwards to see that true obedience, endurance, and mission are moved by the glory of God toward love, enjoyment, longing, compassion, and zeal.
